Switzerland has announced on Tuesday that it was planning to play a key role with the Somali government on rebuilding the country.
After presenting his letter of credence to the president of Somalia in the country’s state house, the new Switzerland Ambassador to Somalia, Dominik Langenbacher, has pledged support to the Somalia Federal Government.
“I am very pleased today that the president of Somalia accepted my credentials, I am also happy to be the first Swiss ambassador to Somalia 30 years later,” Ambassador Mr. Dominik Langenbacher told the media after meeting with Somali president at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
Dominik Langenbacher announced that Switzerland was intending to help with the consolidation of the federal system in the country, strengthening the role of traditional elders’ council and the fight against terrorism.
For his part, President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud said he was very grateful to Switzerland for its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Somalia, and the role it was intending to take in the country’s reconstruction.
“My government will closely work with you to help you successfully accomplish your diplomatic duties in the country,” Somali president told the New Swiss ambassador to the country.
