Djibouti’s president Ismail Omar gelle has warned opposition leaders against continuing in what he called "violent protests".

Gelle accused protesters of carrying out killings, property destruction and creating anarchy in the country after thousands of protesters took to the streets on Friday.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to crackdown opposition protesters following days of unrest after disputed parliamentary elections in the tiny nation.

“They are creating an anarchy,we have warned them, we cannot let them destroy the country,it’s the government’s responsibility to stop them and we did that” he said while speaking to VOA.

He called opposition leaders to put their complaint before the constitutional council which will decide the validity of the election results.

“They got 10% of the casted votes, but they are claiming that they won the majority of the parliament seats, if they have complaint, they should go to the constitutional council instead of creating turmoil” he added.

The president was responding after the opposition rejected the outcome of the parliamentary elections, sending thousands of their supporters to the streets of the capital Jibouti.

The protesters are demanding the release of several prominent opposition leaders, while others are calling the fall down of the government.
