President Uhuru Kenyatta has said his government will continue to
work closely with Burundi and other countries in promoting peace and
security in the region and especially in Somali.
Observing that troops from Burundi are part of the AMISON force in
Somalia, President Kenyatta stressed the need for African countries to
work together in surmounting the challenges facing them.
The President hailed the government of Burundi for its contribution
towards ensuring peace and security not only in Burundi but in the
region.
The President said his government would continue to strengthen
cooperation with Burundi at the bilateral as well as regional level
within the East African Community in order to enhance development for
the benefit of the people of the two countries.
President Kenyatta was speaking on Monday in Bujumbura, Burundi where
he attended the country's 51st independence anniversary cerebrations.
He further noted that people in the region must embrace peace and unity at all times in order to realize meaningful development.
The President was among other leaders from around the world who
included President Paul Kagame of Rwanda that gathered at Boulevard de'
Independence grounds in Bujumbura.
President Kenyatta was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta
and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed among other
senior government officials.
