Eighty-eight people who included students, minors and foreigners were arraigned in a Kibera court over Eastleigh skirmishes that left six people dead and property destroyed.

Police arrested the suspects believed to have been involved in the mayhem that erupted following a blast in a Public Service Vehicle that killed nine people.

The prosecution of the suspects was delayed for more than two days as the court sought to verify the age of some youth, majority of whom were of Somali origin.

Lawyers representing the suspects said 37 minors were arrested. An interpreter had to carry out translation for foreigners while a sign language expert assisted two deaf people.

Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Teresia Matheka released the adults and the foreigners on Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh100,000 and one contact person to register with the court for the case facing the foreigners. The minors and the students were set free on Sh100,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh50,000.

Hearing dates would be set later.
