Puntland police forces with the help of the Alula community in Bari region, intercepted a boat carrying explosives and weapons bound to Somalia from Yemen, Radio Garowe reports.
Bossaso’s Chief of Port police, Col. Mohamed Ali Hashi who spoke to Radio Garowe said that the coastal community in Alula assisted the police in intercepting this boat carrying explosives in the form of TNT, rockets, guns and other weapons that were headed to Alula.
“The men who were carrying the weapons were apprehended in the speed boat, we found TNT powder around 50 kilograms, wires, rockets and guns in the boat. Thanks to the help of the Alula community we were able to capture these weapons,” said Col. Mohamed.
According to Col. Mohamed, one Yemeni man who was on the speed boat was apprehended by police and one Somali man who was working with the Yemeni escaped capture.
Although police have not confirmed the Yemeni man is an Al Qaida agent, police officials who spoke to Radio Garowe said there are speculations of him being an agent but that the investigation is still ongoing.
Col. Mohamed expressed confidence in finding the other Somali man who evaded arrest.
