State warns errant security officers

The government has issued a stern warning to non performing security officers in the country that they risk losing their jobs.

Speaking in Nairobi on Friday, acting Internal Security Minister Yusuf Haji said any officer found displaying laxity in discharging their mandate will be interdicted.

He explained that Kenya cannot afford to treat the terror threat casually and that the government shall use all resources available to fight crime.

The minister called on the public to offer information that could help the security personnel curb crime.

Garissa becoming a ready target to the terror activities, the government revealed that it will set up three more police stations in the town.

Last weekend, suspected Al-shabaab sympathizers attacked two churches in Garissa town, killing 17 people and injuring more than 60 others.

The warning comes a day after top security bosses and three Provincial commissioners were reshuffled in what the government calls security realignment in the country.

The Minister said the government will not give up the efforts to restore Somalia and protect Kenya's boundaries.

Haji said the country is fully capable of protecting its citizens and will not be intimidated by the threats posed by Al-Shabaab.

"Somalia's case is not an African problem only but the of the whole world and that is why the United Nations and the African Union, with other organizations are working together to make sure that Somalia is restored." said Haji

The Minister urged the international community to help Somalia in the governance of the liberated areas noting that the stabilization of the country is important not only to East Africa region but the world as a whole.
