Security concerns remain a big problem for Africa. Power shifts, tribal and religious conflicts, border disputes, gun proliferation and terrorism are all causes for instability and uncertainty in Africa.

The true partners of African countries should help the continent solve these issues.

China has mediated between South Sudan and North Sudan and finally solved the oil dispute between the two with an oil agreement.

The Chinese government set up a special representative for African affairs in 2007 to promote security and stability in the continent. Chinese representatives have appeared and worked hard for peace in Sudan, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Cote d’Ivoire, Eritrea and Ethiopia.

China strongly supports that the African Union plays bigger roles for peace and stability in Africa. China also actively takes part in United Nations’ peace-keeping missions and humanitarian aid work in Africa. China maintains effective communication with African countries and accommodated their concerns on various occasions.

More importantly, China encourages African countries to promote peace and stability with development. China’s investment and assistance to infrastructure construction in Africa not only brings concrete benefits to local people, but also helps them develop their industries and economies, which is the foundation for peace and security.

As the security of Africa will meet new challenges in the new international environment, China will continue its investment and assistance to African countries, making its contribution to promote peace and stability in Africa.
