Abdirashid Hamud Nadif, 23, who lives at the Hal Far open centre, tried selling cannabis to undercover officers. Since he didn’t have the drug on him he called his friend to bring some with him.
Nadif’s friend, Mahad Abdi Adam, 21, from Msida, came along with Omar Mohammed Adam, 22, from Gzira both carrying small amounts of cannabis resin before the police arrested them.
Nadif and Abdi Adam were accused of conspiring and trafficking drugs within a hundred-metre distance from a school or club frequented by young people. Nadif was also accused of relapsing and of committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence while Mohammed Adam was only accused of simple drug possession.
The three admitted the charges, in a court presided by Magistrate Audrey Demicoli. The magistrate considered the fact that the three migrants filed an early guilty plea and that they cooperated throughout the investigations.
Nadif’s two-year jail term suspended for three years, given to him on 27 April, became effective and he was given another one-year jail term.
Abdi Adam was imprisoned for 12 months while Mohammed Adam was conditionally discharged for two years.
Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the accused while police inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted.
