A fund has been set up through Bingham High School to help the family of Mowlid Ali, 16, who died last week after the vehicle he was driving plunged 60 feet off a road near the Snowbird Ski Resort.
Mowlid was a sophomore at Bingham High School, 2160 W. 10400 South, in South Jordan. Administrators are accepting donations at the school's front office in the name of Sadio Hassan, Mowlid's mother.
Additionally, the Smile Brigade club, a student group at the school, will pass around donation jars so students can donate during lunch period, said Gail Ritz, counselor at the school and the club's adviser.
Mowlid's death is the latest in a string of hardships the family has faced. The family escaped from war-torn Somalia to a refugee camp on the northeast border of Kenya. They moved to the United States about two years ago.
