SAN DIEGO: They came to San Diego from Africa, having survived harrowing experiences.

The young lives of nine Somali refugees, now students at Crawford High School, are the subject of a new exhibition at the Museum of San Diego History.

Today, the San Diego Historical Society will unveil the project, A Different Life: Finding Our Future in San Diego.

The Society partnered with the International Rescue Committee for the work, which features the recent Somali immigrants, who share their changes and experiences as young women since coming to this country.

This work reflects the journey these students embarked on from Africa and explains how they adapted to this city. Photographs, traditional Somali clothing and other items will be on display.

The nine refugees will discuss the exhibition at tonight's free opening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of San Diego History in Balboa Park. For information, call (619) 232-6203, ext. 130.
