Al-Shabab Forces Take Control of Bardere City

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Al-Shabab forces took control of the city of Barder in the south of Somalia where the leaders of group spoke to residents of city in a public outdoor space.

Sheik Hassan Ya’kup who was commanding the forces told a the large group of people who gathered in the outdoor space that his forces came to the city to educate the people in the city of the importance of applying Islamic Sharia in the governance of the city.

 Sheik Hassan also advised the crowd to participate in the liberation of Somalia from Ethiopian forces. He also said that his group will hold talks with city’s administration.

The Al-Shabab forces that arrived at the city came from town of Jamame of the lower Juba region where they have been maintaining presence in recent days.

Recently, forces belonging to Al-Shabab and the Islamic Courts Union have been gaining strength in several areas in southern and central Somalia where they have took control of several towns that had administrations appointed by the TFG of Somalia.
