Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL): The death toll from the fighting that took place yesterday evening between Ethiopian and TFG troops on one side and armed militia opposed to them on the other side keeps increasing. To date the death toll stand at thirteen while the number of injured is still unspecified but expected to number in the dozens.

Two women died and six other people were injured at a house in the subdivision of Geed Jeceyl (the Tree of Love). One of the women who died was visiting the house while four of the six injured persons are children and their mothers.

Similarly, a shell landed on a house in the subdivision of Harar-yaale in the district of Wardhigley where six people died while another shell hit a house in the subdivision of Wardhigley district resulting in the death of one person and injuring several other people.

Furthermore, reports we have received this morning from sources in the area Live Stock Market in the district of Huriwaa say that four people died in the area after the house they were in was hit by a “stray” shell. At the time the shell hit their house, a fighting was taking place around the police station in the district of Huriwaa.

The deaths and injuries were all caused by shells from the two sides. It is common that when these fights take place, civilians who are not involved in the fighting become the primary victims and suffer disproportionately.

In conclusion, the total number of people who died in the last 12 hours in Mogadishu due to the fighting between Ethiopian and TFG troops on one side and armed militia on the other side is 1. These people have all died because shells hit in the houses they were staying at the time.
