Fighting breaks out at Somali Islamists' front line

KISMAYU, Somalia, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Ethiopian and Somali government troops clashed with Islamist forces on Sunday at the town of Jilib, where the Islamists have dug in after retreating from the capital Mogadishu, a Somali legislator said.

"Fighting has started here. We are on the outskirts of Jilib," lawmaker Abdirashid Hidig told Reuters by phone.
