National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale is expected to decide on a constituency seat for next year’s General Election.

Mr Duale, whose stature has grown since he was made Majority Leader, told colleagues in the National Assembly he would make the announcement on Saturday.

“I will decide whether it is Balambala or Garissa Town, where I am now,” he said on Wednesday.

He made the remarks as he urged MPs to back two Bills, one barring party-hopping before elections, which were passed on Thursday.

Balambala MP Abdikadir Omar Aden scoffed at the suggestion that Mr Duale would seek his seat.

“Anybody who wants to contest is free to come to Balambala. But I wonder why someone would want to leave a bigger seat to become a village politician?” said Mr Aden.
An announcement by former Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim that he would contest the Garissa Township seat has affected the race.

Former MPs Abdullahi Sheikh Dahir, Aden Sugow and Harun Yussuf have declared interest in the seat held by Mohamed Yussuf Haji.
