BELEDWEYNE (HOL) – Five people including an African Union soldier were wounded after a bomb concealed in a luggage was detonated at an airport in central Somalia, officials said Monday.
The blast at Ugas Khalif Airport, in Beledweyne town occurred shortly before passengers were supposed to board a local airliner that would fly to Mogadishu.
Security officials said that the bomb went off as soldiers were searching through passengers luggages at a checkpoint in the airport.
The blast comes after a suspected suicide bomber blew a hole in the fuselage of a Somali commercial airline and forced it to make an emergency landing in Mogadishu. Al Shabab claimed the responsibility for the explosion.
