MOGADISHU (HOL) – The United States government strongly condemns the Tuesday terrorist attack on Adden Ade Airport in Mogadishu which killed at least 13 people at the gates of the AMISOM base in Mogadishu.
"The United States strongly condemns the July 26 terrorist attack on Adden Ade Airport in Mogadishu. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of the Somali people and United Nations and AMISOM personnel who were killed and injured in this barbarous attack. The United States Mission to Somalia joins the expressions of outrage in Somalia and abroad against this terrorist act, which is yet another demonstration of al-Shabaab’s brutality in its efforts to destabilize Somalia and deny the people of Somalia the peaceful, prosperous future they deserve." said a statement by the US mission to Somalia.
The United States is a major partner for Somali government and deployed military advisors providing counterterrorism aid to help the horn of Africa nation in its fight against the militant group which continues guerilla attacks across large parts of Somalia.
"Al-Shabaab will not succeed. Along with our Somali and international partners, the United States will continue our assistance to Somali security forces to help them defeat al-Shabaab, restore stability, and rebuild a peaceful and prosperous country." Added the statement from US mission to Somalia
In addition, US military also carried out numerous airstrikes that killed dozens of the group’s leaders including the group’s spiritual leader Ahmed Abdi Godane who was killed in a US drone airstrike
