AU Special Representative for Somalia pledges support for HirShabelle state from AMISOM Public Information on Vimeo.
Jowhar (HOL) - Francisco Madeira. the Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (SRCC) for Somalia, has pledged to support the newly formed regional state Hirshabelle to improve its infrastructure and bolster its security; both of which are crucial in developing the agricultural sector of the region.
"We want to support the President (of HirShabelle) in his efforts to develop this state by ensuring infrastructure like roads are developed and remain passable, so that the population can take their produce from their farms to the market because this is a farming area and the population are farmers,” said the SRCC.
Ambassador Madeira was in Johwar, where he met with the President of HirShabelle state Ali Abdulahi Osoble. According to the president's chief of staff, Abdiqadir Abdullahi Hooshow, the two shared their views on various issues concerning the regional administration.
“The talks between the Special Representative of the AU and the President of HirShabelle were on security, infrastructure development support and on accelerating the electoral process,” Mr. Hooshow observed.
While in Jowhar Ambassador Madeira also met with senior AMISOM and SNA commanders stationed in the town.
AMISOM troops are working closely with Somali troops to ensure a safe electoral process.
