BELEDWEYNE (HOL) - Police in the central Somali town of Beledweyne have arrested a woman on suspicion of poisoning her husband, following the mysterious death of the man, officials said Friday.
Four other suspected were also arrested in connection with the man’s death as authorities continue an autopsy on the man’s body.
Abdikadir Mohamed Ahmed, a senior police official in the town told reporters that the man died after his 25-years old woman contaminated his food with poison.
Mr. Ahmed said the police are investigating four other ‘accomplices’ suspected of assisting the woman to kill her husband who fell ill after eating a contaminated meal at her home in Howlwadaag neighborhood.
The unidentified woman who faces charges of a first degree murder will be arraigned in the town’s magistrate court this week, according to Mr. Ahmed.
The motive behind the ‘poisoning’ remains unclear, however, such incidents are uncommon in the town which has a large population who are largely farmers and animal herders.
