95 Somali nationals who were evacuated from Yemen by the International Migration Organization (IOM) arrived safely in Mogadishu on 18 May.

The evacuees landed at Aden Abdulle International Airport yesterday afternoon aboard a Jordan Aviation aircraft and were received by Somalia's First Lady Mama Sahra Omar, the State Minister for Interior Abdirashi Mohamed Hidig, IOM Chief of Mission Gerard Waite, Senior Protection Officer with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Edward O'Dwyer and top Somali government officials.

The return of the evacuees happens in the wake of a five-day truce agreed between the warring factions in Yemen. The truce came to an end on Sunday night shortly after the Somali nationals were safely evacuated from Yemen.

IOM has also been assisting with the evacuation of third county nationals from Somalia in recent months. The organization has evacuated approximately 1200 people out of Yemen from 40 different countries.
