After Muhiyadin M. Hassan, of St. Cloud, turns 21, he will be released from the juvenile correctional facility in Red Wing and be on probation for 15 years, according to the sentence given Friday in Stearns County District Court by Judge John H. Scherer. Hassan was 16 at the time of the killing.

The county attorney’s office said it believes Hassan is not a U.S. citizen and that he will be deported to his country. The office said the deportation could occur during or after probation, but it did not disclose Hassan’s country of origin.

Hassan pleaded guilty in juvenile court on Aug. 10 to second-degree unintentional murder in the death of 20-year-old Davee Moshea Devose on June 26. Devose, who attended St. Paul Humboldt High School, was a student at St. Cloud Tech and Community College at the time of his death.

About 1:40 a.m. officers were dispatched near 6th Avenue and 5th Street S. concerning a street fight. They found Devose lying on the street, stabbed in the chest. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

Police located Hassan a few blocks away. He admitted to stabbing Devose during a fight. Throughout the case, Hassan stated that he was concerned for his own safety and for that of his friend who was being assaulted.
