KANSAS CITY, Mo. - People of many different faiths honored the Muslim teen hit and killed outside the Somali Center of Kansas City.

The memorial service at the mosque on Admiral Boulevard was a show of solidarity with the family and loved ones of Abdisamad “Adam” Sheikh-Hussein.

They wanted to prove that hope and peace will always prevail over hate and evil.

The teenager died Thursday night after being intentionally hit by an SUV outside the Somali Center of Kansas City.

Speakers at the service included representatives from the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council, the former Kansas City mayor pro tem and representatives from local Muslim organizations.

"So it's a great loss. It's a great loss that is felt close to home because everyone that has siblings or has children of his age or maybe even younger feels this could have happened to them," Hafiz Nurdeen Lawal, a youth Muslim community leader, said.

Hundreds attended Adam’s funeral on Saturday.
